Product Overview
Gingerol extract is a collective term for phenolic active ingredients derived from the rhizomes of Zingiber officinale (ginger), a well-known medicinal and edible herb. It is the primary source of ginger’s characteristic pungent taste and its major bioactive components. Among its constituents, [6]-gingerol is the most abundant and pharmacologically active compound, accounting for approximately 70% of total gingerols.
Active Ingredients
- [6]-Gingerol
- [8]-Gingerol
- [10]-Gingerol
- Shogaols, zingerone and related derivatives

Key Benefits & Mechanisms
- Anti-inflammatory & Analgesic
Inhibits COX-2, NF-κB and other inflammatory pathways, relieves osteoarthritis, menstrual cramps and muscle soreness, and reduces inflammatory responses.
- Anti-emetic Effect
Regulates gastrointestinal motility and antagonizes 5-HT₃ receptors, helping relieve motion sickness, morning sickness and -induced nausea and vomiting.
- Digestive Support
Stimulates gastric juice secretion, enhances intestinal peristalsis, protects gastric mucosa, and improves abdominal distension and poor appetite.
- Antioxidant Activity
Scavenges free radicals, enhances the activity of antioxidant enzymes (e.g., glutathione peroxidase), and reduces oxidative stress damage.
- Cardiovascular Support
Promotes nitric oxide production, improves endothelial function, supports healthy blood lipid levels, and provides mild anti-platelet aggregation effects.
- Metabolic Regulation
Activates brown adipose tissue, increases basal metabolic rate, and assists in fat metabolism.
- Antimicrobial & Cosmetic Applications
Inhibits Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and other pathogens; promotes scalp blood circulation and supports hair health.
Main Applications
- Pharmaceutical & Nutraceuticals: Used in formulations for anti-inflammation, anti-emesis, digestion support and joint health supplements.
- Food Industry: Applied as a natural flavoring agent, preservative and functional ingredient in beverages, seasonings and snacks.
- Cosmetics & Personal Care: Added to skin care products for skin wellness support and brightening; used in hair care products to prevent hair loss and relieve dandruff.
Safety & Precautions
- Recommended Dosage: Daily dietary intake of 1–3 g of ginger (equivalent to 100–300 mg of gingerol) is safe. Supplemental intake is generally recommended not to exceed 1500 mg per day.
- Adverse Reactions: High doses (>6 g/day of raw ginger) may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, heartburn or diarrhea.
- Cautions:
- Not recommended for individuals with bleeding disorders or those taking anticoagulant medications.
- Use with caution in patients with gallstones, gastric ulcers, pregnant or lactating women.
Extraction & Quality Control
- Extraction Methods: Ethanol extraction, ultrasonic/microwave-assisted extraction, supercritical CO₂ extraction.
- Quality Testing: [6]-gingerol content quantified by HPLC; compliance with heavy metal limits (Pb ≤5 mg/kg, As ≤2 mg/kg) and microbial specifications for food and pharmaceutical grade materials.
